The first coffea shrubs arrived at Colombia in beginning of the 19th century and since then, the country has become the major worldwide producer of washed Arabica. Produced in high altitudes and subjected to a series of microclimates, this coffee is also characterized from growing in volcanic soil, rich in mineral salts, which give it a complex and intense aroma. The production of coffee in Colombia is quite laborious and its meccanization is basically non-existent.
